Biography
Kyle has been a passionate member of the Hydrospatial community since his first job as a remote sensing analyst, hand-tracing contours on mylar sheets from bathymetric data over 20 years ago. He founded TCarta Marine (in his basement, while taking care of his first child) to map the world’s oceans in 2007. His first official product was a Global Shoreline, which he envisioned and executed alongside several global commercial projects with a company of three.
Kyle received his B.A. in Geosciences from Williams College where he enrolled in the institution’s first remote sensing classes and learned his love for GIS. He has extensive experience in the satellite-based geospatial, cartographic, and hydrospatial fields and is a lifelong student of the relevant technology.
Kyle is known in the Hydrospatial Industry as an SDB evangelist, a true visionary of the technology and its role in addressing global and U.S. government needs. In addition to being the face of TCarta, Kyle is a solution engineer and product manager, having designed several products over time that bridge the art of the possible with industry and hydrographic requirements. Additionally, Kyle has served as the Principal Investigator on TCarta’s NSF SBIR Phase I & II and NOAA SBIR Phase I & II grants. Within the company, Kyle is known for keeping his technical skills sharp, saying, “Can I see that in a map?” and for his tireless dedication. He is a father, small business owner, and currently pursuing a Cat-B certificate in hydrography.
